It took a long time to finally
get out of bed and showered. It was the afternoon already and James had gone to
the local 7 eleven and got me a pot noodle on request. Once that, and half a
Berocca, was inside I began to feel almost human again. Our one task for the
day was to head out and buy train tickets for our trip to Chiang Mai and back
to Bangkok, 3 days later. We could have got a tuk-tuk, or a taxi, but we
thought that maybe the walk down there would do us good. There was plenty to
keep our eyes and ears occupied along the way, but it was proving all too much
for my dehydrated and Chang-infused brain. Still, we soldiered on and made it
to the train station and managed to get all our tickets sorted. There was even a
“monk-only” waiting area in the train station, which amused me greatly.
The walk back was much of the
same, but the can of strawberry Mirinda (as promoted by Gareth from a trip to
India some years ago) got me most of the way back. And then it was time to
begin the packing and planning for the next stage of our trip, up into the
north and Chaing Mai. We didn’t want much for dinner that night, and it was a
good job, because the Pizza Hut that we wandered past did the smallest pizzas I have ever witnessed. OK,
it was a bit of a cop-out, but it was quick and easy and it hit the spot. An
ice-cream on the balcony later was the highlight of the day, and it looked like
it hadn’t rained all day, which was just typical. We would need an early night
as we had a train to catch at 8:30am so we turned in and tried to get some
quality sleep, something that we certainly hadn’t got the night before.
